Footprints on Water, starring Adil Hussain, Antonio Aakeel, Nimisha Bindu Sajayan, and Lena Kumar, began shooting at Birmingham in the UK on Friday. Footprints on Water is an upcoming British-Indian film directed by Nathalia Syam, about an illegal immigrant man’s search for his missing daughter.

Footprints on Water has been written by the director’s sister, Neetha Syam, who won fifth place at the Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Contest for the script. The cinematographer of the film is Alagappan N.

Bankrolled by Mohaan Nadaar’s The Production Headquarters, Footprints on Water follows the story of a father (Hussain) who is staying in the UK illegally. He searches for his missing daughter while avoiding police scrutiny.
Lena Kumar will play Adil Hussain’s wife, who is the stepmother of the missing girl (Nimisha Bindu Sajayan). Antonio Aakeel will play an Afghani refugee in the film.
Speaking to Variety, Nathalia Syam said, “As immigrants of Indian origin brought up in Britain, we’ve had a ringside view into the lives of various people, their cultures and ethnicities. Neetha’s script will be visually approached by elements of realism. Through the plot of an illegal immigrant father’s search for his missing daughter, we raise the question of what happens, when the invisibles go missing.”

Hussain, who is also acting in the sequel of the hit 1969 Assamese film Dr Bezbarua, during an interview to Silverscreen India in November said, “All these projects, it just so happened that they got in touch with me through casting directors and I auditioned and the role was offered to me. There is no strategy behind it. The only strategy could be energy, that I had a strong desire to act in that script and somehow the universe conspired for me. That is the only way I can describe it.”
Hussain starred in the Netflix’s crime drama series Delhi Crime, which won the Best Drama Series Award at the 48th International Emmy Awards this year.
The script of Footprints on Water was also represented at the Jaipur Film Festival this year.
