Aditya Roy Kapur is all set to star in the Hindi remake of the Tamil film ThadamThe production house T-Series, which will be backing this film, announced the news on Instagram.

Based on true events, the 2019 Tamil film starred actor Arun Vijay in the lead in a dual role.

The Hindi remake will be helmed by debutant director Vardhan Ketkar. The yet-to-be-titled thriller will see Kapur essaying a double role for the first time.

Talking about his role in the film, Kapur said in a statement, “The original film was incredibly riveting and entertaining, and it left a lasting impression on me. As an actor, getting a chance to do a double role is double the preparation and double the challenge, and I’m certainly up for it!”

Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios, the film is tentatively planned to go on floors in September this year.

Producer Khetani said, “When I watched Thadam, I instantly knew that this story needs to reach the masses. Soon after, I reached out to the Tamil makers and acquired the rights to make this film in Hindi. When I shared the story with Bhushanji, he came on board immediately.”

Khetani and Kumar earlier produced another Hindi remake of a South Indian film, the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Kabir Singh, which was the official remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy.

Thadam featured Arun Vijay in a double role as lookalikes Ezhil and Kavin who are involved in a murder. The film had opened to great reviews and was one of the top grossing films of 2019. Produced by Inder Kumar, Thadam also featured three female leads, Tanya Hope, Vidya Pradeep, and Smruthi Venkat, as well as Sonia Aggarwal in a pivotal role.

Earlier, in March 2020, it was announced that actor Siddharth Malhotra had been roped in to play the lead in the Hindi remake of Thadam, with the film slated to release in November 2020. However, due to unknown reasons, the project did not take off at the time.

Meanwhile, Kapur will also be seen in the upcoming film OM: The Battle Within alongside actor Sanjana Sanghi.
