In 1969, late Bollywood actress Nargis played the role of a woman with split personality in Raat Aur Din. Directed by Satyen Bose, Varun is a simple homemaker by day, who calls herself Peggy at night and walks around the streets of Calcutta. The film fetched the actress a National Award that year for her powerful performance in the film.
The film is all set for a remake, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reprising Nargis’ role. Directed by Siddharth Anand of Bang Bang! fame, the film will be produced by Prernaa Arora. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the producer confirmed the film, adding that while the film will be different in some aspects, the original songs will be retained.
Raat Aur Din was Nargis’ last film, starting a cult following over the years.
This year, Aishwarya also has Fanney Khan in the pipeline. The film is an official remake of the Oscar nominated Belgian 2000 film Everybody’s Famous! and stars Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and is directed by Atul Manjrekar. The film is likely to release in June this year.
