Ajay Devgn will play football legend Syed Abdul Rahim in an upcoming film. The sports biopic will be produced by Boney Kapoor along with Zee Studios and Fresh Lime Films.

The announcement was made on social media recently by Zee Studios.

According to a report in Scroll, the film is directed by Amit Sharma with screenplay and dialogues by Saiwayn Quadras and Ritesh Shah.

Boney Kapoor told Times Of India that he was amazed at the fact that so many people are not aware of Syed Abdul Rahim and his achievements. Kapoor is of the opinion that it will take someone like Ajay Devgn to make sure that Rahim’s story reaches everybody. The film will inspire Indian youngsters to play football and bring the World Cup to India soon, he added.

More details regarding the cast and crew will be unveiled soon. A first look poster bearing the film’s title is expected to be launched later this month, as well.

Syed Abdul Rahim served the Indian football team as its coach and manager from 1950-1963. It was under his guidance that the Indian football team won Gold at the 1962 Asian Games. He also led the team to the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He died of cancer at the age of 54.
