The action-drama will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.

The Ajith-starrer is the latest addition to the slew of Tamil and Telugu films that are set to hit theatres in the coming months. Recently, the makers of pan-Indian films like RRR and Radhe Shyam, as well as Tamil films such as Don and Etharkkum Thunindhavan announced their respective release dates.

Valimai was initially supposed to arrive on January 13, but was postponed citing the “steep rise in Covid infections across the globe.” The film’s deferment came close on the heels of the Tamil Nadu government’s announcement of new restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19, including night curfew and Sunday lockdown, which rendered theatres unable to run night and Sunday shows. With Valimai out of the festive race, smaller Tamil films had released instead during the Pongal holidays.

Marking Ajith’s return to the screen three years after his last outing, Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai is the most eagerly awaited film in the actor’s career. It will be one of the first few films to hit the big screens following the lifting of the Covid-19 restrictions by the Tamil Nadu government.

Valimai is directed by filmmaker H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor under his BayView Projects banner in association with Zee Studios.

Besides Ajith, the film also stars actors Huma S Qureshi, Karthikeya, Bani, Sumithra, Achyunth Kumar, Yogi Babu, Raj Ayyappa, and Pugazh. Valimai is shot by cinematographer Nirav Shah, and has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is edited by Vijay Velukutty.

After Valimai, Ajith will once again collaborate with Kapoor and Vinoth for his 61st film. Tentatively referred to as AK 61, it will mark the third joint venture of the trio after Valimai and Nerkonda Paarvai.
