Akashdeep Saigal Signs KV Anand Film; Accuses Salman Khan Of Sabotaging His Career

Akashdeep Saigal, who played the villain in Suriya starrer Ayan, has returned to the Tamil film industry with a major role in the latest KV Anand directorial. In a recent interview, he said that he plays a sophisticated character in the new film. “In Ayan, I was all out bad — Kamalesh wanted to destroy everybody, killed ruthlessly, did drugs and the like. This is totally unlike it. He is a sophisticated character. It is a flamboyant character who has a rich background. In this film, good and bad is subjective, so I cannot say if I’m playing the villain, but the character will be extremely interesting. Either people would be disappointed or they would go ‘Wow’.”

Though Ayan was a box-office success collecting Rs. 65 crores worldwide, Akashdeep chose to stay away from the Tamil film industry as he was ‘committed to a television production house in Bollywood’. “To be frank, I did not really bother about doing more films here. If I had chosen to try my luck in Tamil cinema and had hired a PR for myself, I’m sure that I would have received a lot of offers, especially because the film became a blockbuster.”

Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna Sebastien has been cast as the leads in this film, which also has T Rajendar and Pandiarajan in important roles.

Akashdeep Saigal also hinted that Salman Khan tried to sabotage his film career. The actor had a memorable stint on reality show Bigg Boss 5 in 2011, which was hosted by Salman Khan. The duo had a public spat over the course of the show, after Akashdeep accused Salman of assault. “I never hired any PR to destroy a career. I don’t have a petty mind. I don’t take 10 people along with me to make myself seem more powerful,” he told ToI, in an interview. “I was shocked that Salman Khan came into the celebrity home, attacked me personally, attempted to demoralise me and put me in a bad light. I’m glad that I was respectful, held my ground and maintained my dignity,” Akashdeep said.

Akashdeep shot to fame after he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1998. He went on to be a part of several popular Television series such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kkusum and Kahaani Hamaarey Mahabhaarat Ki.
