The movie will retain the original film’s director Raghava Lawrence. However, there will be a few changes, said a source close to the producers. “It’s not a straight remake, the basic premise will draw references from two films, Muni and Kanchana, so it’s more like two films clubbed in one to create double the impact. The team has been working on the script for over six months and has added several new dimensions to the original film.”

The movie is being planned as a revenge drama and will see Akshay Kumar play a man whose fear of ghosts doesn’t allow him to step out of the house after sunset. His encounter with a ghost, a trans person, forms the crux of the story. The original film was appreciated for its sensitive portrayal of transgender persons.

The Hindi remake is still in its casting stage, and is being planned as a 2020 release. The movie marks Akshay Kumar’s return to the horror comedy genre after Bhool Bhulaiyaa in 2007.

Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana series has been a huge hit with the audience. Recently, the director had announced the third installment in the series.
