National-award winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s real-life inspired drama Aligarh will hit theatres on February 26 next year. The film, which has Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao in the lead, is based on the life of Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was terminated from his job as a professor of Marathi at Aligarh University because of his sexual-orientation. Siras, later, committed suicide.

“Eros International and Hansal Mehta’s much-awaited critically acclaimed film Aligarh, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, to release on February 26, 2016,” a statement read.

The film, in October 2015, had received a standing ovation at its World premiere at the 20th Busan International Film Festival.
