Directed by Meyaadha Maan fame Rathnakumar, the shoot for Aadai is currently underway in the city between Sholinganallur and Kelambakkam, reported The Times of India. About the experience of shooting into the New Year, the director said: “We were shooting on the night of December 31, but we freed up Amala Paul some time before the night, and she thanked us for the gesture by treating us to a cake, which we cut on the set.”

Talking about Amala Paul’s character, he said, “She plays a chirpy urban girl who is trying to find her own identity. We all wear different masks at different times in our lives. She is a character who is exploring her own self.” The director added that the character also reflects the actress as a person, and praised her commitment. “Amala is sensible. We are shooting using live sound, and she is trying hard to ensure that her lines do not have a Malayalam accent.”

In the first look poster released by director Venkat Prabhu earlier, Amala Paul is seen cowering in fright from something and the title, Aadai, is accompanied by the words – Audacious, Arrogant, Artistic.

Speaking to Silverscreen, director Rathna Kumar said that the film is a dark comedy. “It has twists and turns that will keep the audience enthralled. The relevance of the title will be explained in the coming weeks. The film deals with the boundaries we set for ourselves, and what happens when they are crossed.”

A press release said that while previous generations were pampered and spoilt by the culture of complimentary services and products, free data spoils this generation. “Aadai will depict these realities.”
