Amitabh Bachchan Set To Kaun Banega Crorepati Again: Here Are The Tamil Stars Who Have Embraced TV

Many Tamil stars have forayed into television, hosting reality shows and game shows. With Amitabh Bachchan set to host the tenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, here are the Tamil celebrities who have embraced the small-screen.

One such example is Kamal Haasan. The actor, who hosted Bigg Boss Season 1 last year, has been roped in for the new season as well. Before announcing his political entry and the formation of his party, the Makkal Needhi Maiam, Haasan used the Bigg Boss platform to air his views on current affairs. From caste politics to NEET, he made statements while hosting the reality show. Not to mention, actress Oviya became a runaway star with her popularity on the show.

During the season finale, Haasan had said, “Naan Varuven, Vandhey Theeruven (I’m not coming, out of my wish, I’m coming out of interest to serve people. I will come as a thondan.
Actor Arya made his small screen debut with Enga Veetu Mapillai, a show that borrows heavily from the American reality TV show The Bachelor, that first aired in 2002 – an idea that is not completely new to Indian television. The Bachelorette – Mere Khayalonki Malika that aired in 2013 featured actor Mallika Sherawat looking for her life-partner on the reality TV programme.

Enga Veetu Mapillai has Arya hunting for his bride-to-be among 16 prospective participants, a few coming from different countries. The show’s first episode aired on February and is being hosted by actor Sangeetha Krish.

In the past, Kaun Banega Crorepati’s Tamil version Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi has seen actors Suriya and Prakash Raj hosting the show. Neengalum Vellalaam Oru Kodi marked the debut of Suriya as a television host. Suriya hosted the show from February to July, 2012 on STAR Vijay.
When Suriya couldn’t continue for the second season of Neengalum Vellalaam Oru Kodi, Prakash Raj took over the hosting chair. He hosted the second season of the show and brought to the hot seat a few celebrity guests, including Kamal Haasan and Gauthami, Arvind Swami, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Sridevi and Suriya. Actor Arvind Swami had hosted the show in 2016.
Veteran actor Sarathkumar hosted a game show titled Kodeeswaran, which had a similar format to Neengalum Vellalaam Oru Kodi and was aired on Sun TV.
Before foraying into Tamil films, Sivakarthikeyan began his TV career as a participant in the comedy reality show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru on STAR Vijay, moved on to become an anchor for Adhu Idhu Edhu on the same channel. He soon became a favourite among the television audience. He has also hosted shows like Super Singer and other promotional events on television.
