AMMA Asks Members To Avoid Talking To The Media About Internal Affairs

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A) has issued a circular asking its members not to discuss its internal affairs with the media. By going to the media with their issues, the artists bring disrepute to the organisation, the circular said.

According to a report published by Asianet News, AMMA said that discussing issues in public would only put the organization on a back foot.  The association said that it acknowledged the resignation tendered by the actresses, Rima Kallingal, Geethu Mohandas, Remya Nambeesan and the survivor. However, this does not mean that they will be excluded from the meeting to be held on August 7.

The emergency meeting was scheduled after some of its members including Joy Mathew and Shammi Thilakan complained against the move to reinstate rape accused actor Dileep into the organisation. The circular also said that the move was nullified once the actor made it clear that he did not want to be a part of the organisation until the case proceedings got over.

AMMA got caught up in a controversy when Mohanlal, after taking over as the new president of AMMA, initiated proceedings to reinstate Dileep. At the time, Mohanlal said that it was the decision of the working body to revoke Dileep’s suspension.

The move kicked up a huge storm with artists from Kerala objecting to Mohanlal being the chief guest of Kerala State Awards ceremony. More than 100 people from the cultural walk of Kerala signed a petition demanding that the State Award ceremony follow the National Award model and have the Chief Minister hand out the award to the prize winners.

This saw the entire film industry splitting up, with one side coming out in support of Mohanlal while the other asked the actor to stay away from the event. Director Dr Biju even asked artists to boycott the function if the decision to make Mohanlal the chief guest was not changed.
