Anton Yelchin, 27, the actor who rose to fame with the Star Trek reboot has died in a freak car accident. The actor was found pinned to the gate of his own home after he failed to show up for a rehearsal. According to Police reports, the actor had ‘temporarily exited’ his Jeep Grand Cherokee car on Saturday night when it rolled backwards and pinned him to the gate. His body was discovered by concerned friends who arrived at his residence to check on him after he failed to attend a rehearsal.
Anton was the son of former Russian figureskaters, Irina and Victor Yelchin. They fled to the US as political refugees when Anton was still only months old. Raised in Los Angeles, Yelchin attended the University of Southern California. He started acting when he was young and went on to act in films like Charlie Bartlett, Only Lovers Left Alive and Terminator : Salvation.
His tragic passing has shocked the cinema industry, with many paying tributes to the rising star. Star Trek’s director JJ Abrams posted a moving message to the late actor on his Twitter account.
