Anushka Sharma Quashes Reports Claiming Virat Kohli Produced “Phillauri”

Even as the Anushka Sharma-Diljit Dosanjh starer Phillauri made waves since the trailer of the movie was released on YouTube last week, it has come under criticism, and controversy. Media outlets claim that the movie – Anushka’s second home production – has been bankrolled by the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress’ long-time beau and Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli.

The 28-year-old actress took to social media, and wrote an open letter refuting all the claims. Anushka wrote, “So those TV channels/newspapers/websites claiming anything else, please check facts, practice responsible journalism and have some shame. By making such bogus claims and validating this rubbish by your so called ‘source’, not only are you disrespecting me and the hard work I have put in over the years to be where I am, but also, all the people who have worked on this film.”

Anushka further quashed the reports, “For someone who makes a living out of maligning people, it must definitely be hard to believe that a person can stand on their own feet and do something meaningful with their life.”

The actress did not mince words as she said, “And next time the same people come wanting to talk about ‘women empowerment’ and ‘women in films today’, do remember this is what you do to ‘women in films’ who are trying to change the narrative and take charge of their own careers.”

Anushka Sharma runs Clean Slate Films along with her brother, Karnesh Sharma. Their first production was NH10, which was well received by critics and fans alike.

Phillauri also stars Suraj Sharma, and is directed by debutante Anshai Lal.
