Anwar Rasheed Makes His Directorial Debut In Kollywood; Arjun Das Is The Leading Man

Malayalam director Anwar Rasheed known for films like Rajamanikyam, Ustad Hotel, and Trance will now be venturing into Kollywood to helm a rural film starring fame Arjun Das who has also starred in Kaithi . The director confirmed the same in an interview with Malayalam online portal OnmanoramaHe will also be bankrolling the project under his Anwar Rasheed Entertainments banner.

Screenwriter Midhun Manuel Thomas known for his Aadu franchise and crime thriller Anjaam Pathiraa will be penning the story for the film. He confirmed the same on his Facebook wall on Sunday. He wrote, “Yup.. its official. I’m writing the script for the first Tamil movie directed by Anwar Rasheed. Arjun Das is the hero. Details soon..!”

Arjun Das also put out a statement on Monday evening confirming his presence in the project. The Kaithi actor said that he was honoured to be a part of Anwar’s maiden Tamil project and thanked Midhun and him for believing in him. He also thanked the press and media for sharing the news.

Apart from his work as a director, Anwar is known for making some iconic Malayalam movies like Bangalore Days and Premam under his Anwar Rasheed Entertainments. His last film Trance that opened up to mixed reviews and bombed at the box office was also commissioned by his home banner.

He has now reportedly signed two other films as a producer – one to be written and directed by Alphonse Puthran and the other, an adaption of the YouTube Malayalam series ‘Othalanga Thuruthu’ that gained popularity during the lockdown period. The latter will be helmed by Ambuji who helmed the series as well.

Arjun Das, on the other hand, is awaiting the release of his Andhaghaaram and Vijay starrer Master which were to hit screens earlier but skipped a release due to the national lockdown. While rumours are abuzz that both the films will be going the OTT way, the production houses have denied the same.
