Director Bala, who had announced that he would make a film based on Vela Ramamoorthi’s controversial novel Kuttra Parambarai, is likely to begin work on the film in January 2017. The director has announced that the film will star Vishal, Arvind Swami, Atharvaa, Rana Daggubati, and Arya. The film has been in the news for the past few months, as the core plot of the story has been a bone of contention between Bala and director Barathiraja. The novel is about a tribal community which had been criminalized by the British. Meanwhile, Barathiraja has begun work on his own film, Kutraparambarai.

Vishal has also said that the film is scheduled to begin early next year, after he finishes his next projects, Kaththi Sandai, Thupparivaalan and the Tamil remake of Temper.
