Disney India has acquired the rights to Bappi Lahiri’s popular ’80s song, ‘Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba’ from the film Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki (1984) for use in a promotional video for Hollywood film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
According to an IANS report, the studio felt that the Mithun Chakraborty-Salma Agha song would be perfectly in sync with the film’s spirit considering the first Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) film contained a lot of classic songs.
“As music is a dominant aspect of the movie, we thought it would be a great idea to revive a retro hit dance for the Hindi version,” said Amrita Pandey, Vice President-Studios, Disney India, in a statement.
Sung by actress Salma Agha herself, the 1984 film featured several other popular numbers that have been rehashed recently, including ‘Come Closer’, which was used in this year’s Oscar-nominated film Lion. Lahiri also lent his voice for the song ‘Shona’ in the Hindi version of another Oscar-nominated film Moana.
His songs have frequently been either covered or featured by bands and films. In 2002, an American band named Truth Hurts used a riff from his song ‘Kaliyon Ka Chaman’ from the film Jyoti (1981). ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ from Disco Dancer (1982) was used in the 2008 Adam Sandler movie, You Don’t Mess With The Zohan.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn, and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista. It also features the voices of actors like Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. The film is slated to release on May 5 in India, in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
