Speaking to Silverscreen, Nithya Dheju said, “Yes, I have become a part of the party. We plan to work for the development and upliftment of women.” She has been appointed as the president of the Tamil Nadu wing of the party.

Following announcements in Delhi and Bengaluru, NWP founder and Chief Dr Shwetha Shetty had announced the formation of the party in Mumbai yesterday. Their motto is to empower women; ‘Party of Mothers’ is their tagline.

According to India Today, Shetty said that the party aims to ensure the empowerment of women by achieving 50% reservation in parliament and state assemblies. “This party is a historic step in our mission to ensure equal representation for women in Parliament. Our ideology is to remove gender disparity in politics and thus create equal importance for females in the patriarchal Indian society,” she said in a Business Standard report.

Shetty also said that her party was ready to accept men into the fold if they were ready to concede to their reservations demands.

The party’s priorities also include the betterment of soldiers and farmers. Shetty said that the party would be contesting in 283 seats – 50 percent, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As part of the election campaign, the party plans to introduce Mahila Rakshak, a mobile app for the safety of women. According to her, “Safety is of utmost importance considering the growing incidents of crimes against them.”

However, Shetty chose to remain neutral on certain issues like Sabarimala. Talking about the issue, she said, “It is not a question of equality. Women younger than the age of 10 and older than 60 are already going there. So this is not an issue at all.”
