‘Bigil’ Update: Screen Scene Acquires TN Theatrical Rights

The Tamil Nadu theatrical rights for director Atlee’s Vijay and Nayanthara-starrer Bigil has been acquired by Screen Scene Entertainment, and the overseas rights by XGen Studio and United India Exporters.

The film’s producer Archana Kalapathi of AGS Entertainment announced the news on Twitter yesterday. According to a report by IB Times, the pre-releases sales of the film is likely to cross Rs 220 crores. The overseas rights have been sold for Rs 30 crores, and distributors were willing to acquire Tamil Nadu rights for upto Rs 80 crores. This is the highest pre-release earnings for a Vijay film and only Rajinikanth-starrers have earned more than Rs 200 crores before release in Tamil cinema so far.

Meanwhile, reports have once again surfaced that Shah Rukh Khan is part of the cast and is likely to play a cameo role as a villain. He reportedly has 15-minute screen time and will be shooting a fight scene with Vijay. This is not confirmed yet and the film’s spokesperson has maintained that no official announcement can be made. During an IPL match earlier this year Shah Rukh met Atlee in Chennai and it was widely reported that he will be part of the film. Some also said that Atlee was considering a Hindi remake of Bigil with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead.

The title and first-look of the film released on June 22, confirming that Vijay plays a double role, Bigil and Michael. A picture of an ID card also did the rounds on social media. The card showed Vijay as C Micheal, the head coach of a team competing in the Senior Women’s National Football Championship.

Trailer release announcements are currently awaited. The film will be out this Diwali.
