Of the films released earlier this year, Baahubali, The Conclusion continues to make money, while Dangal got a fillip in China. Alien Covenant, which released on 19 May, dropped down the ranks, as Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Baywatch took over.

According to comScore US rankings, Pirates Of The Caribbean made USD 62 million in the first weekend at the domestic box-office, and a total of a USD 270 million (Approx INR 175 crores) worldwide. The film, released in India as Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, was earlier held to ransom with the hackers demanding a large sum of money in BitCoins. However, it seems that the film has not done as well as expected

Meanwhile, Sachin has earned INR 24 crores. Baahubali, The Conclusion went past the INR 1500 crore earnings a while ago, but according to Box Office India, it has made a net profit of INR 1000 crores.  Dangal, thanks to Chinese viewers (and a good critique of its feminism there), has earned a total of USD 224 million worldwide – or approximately INR 1500 crores. Indian Express reports that the film has earned in excess of INR 1600 crores, making it the highest earning Indian film.

Baywatch, a comedy based on the TV show, is also Priyanka Chopra’s debut Hollywood film. However, it is yet to release in India. Hindustan Times says that the film makers have delayed it to avoid competition – possibly with Sachin. In the US, however, the film earned a total of USD 18 million, and about USD 22 million worldwide.

Thondan and Brindavanam, released over the last weekend, have made approximately INR 32 lakhs, and INR 23 lakhs, respectively. These numbers are, however, for Chennai city only. So far no reliable estimates of total earnings across Tamil Nadu are available. However, according to industry watchers, Thondan has been doing better in other parts of Tamil Nadu than in Chennai.
