Box Office Roundup: Slow Start For Ittefaq, Good Opening For Aval In Tamil Nadu

It was a week of thrillers, leaving movie-goers to choose between three different genres of the same – a horror, a crime, and an action one. On the side, there was a slice-of-life one that may or may not have worked for many.

A look at the week’s box office roundup:

Ittefaq

Abhay Chopra’s film starring Akshaye Khanna, Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha is a crime fiction with the twists and turns of a whodunit thriller. The film’s marketing was done via social media, especially with Twitter suffixing an emoji with the film’s hashtag.

Just like the film, the box office collection is average. According to a latest report on BoxofficeIndia.com, the film has raked in Rs 4 crore on the day of its release. The film fared best in Mumbai and a huge chunk of the premium multiplex business comes from Delhi NCR, the report further states. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh suggests that the film’s earnings would pick up during the weekend.

Vizhithiru

Last time the film was set to release in October, protest against the double taxation in the industry was going on. Meera Kathiravan, director of Vizhithiru, starring Viddharth, Krishna, and Sai Dhanshika, said he was determined to release it as soon as possible.

The audio and teaser launch had happened way back in 2015, and the movie, which was expected to release then, was pushed indefinitely.

The film’s box-office collection is yet to be known. Pitted next to new, bigger releases, and the mixed reviews, the collections might not be too promising.
