C V Kumar, the producer of films like Pizza and Iraivi, has released the first look poster of his second directorial venture. Titled Gangs of Madras, the film features Daniel Balaji, Bhagavathi Perumal and Kalaiyarasan in lead roles.
While these three actors are featured prominently in the poster, there’s also a woman wielding a bottle in one hand. The details of the actress have been kept under wraps.

C V Kumar, known for his acclaimed low budget films like Soothukavvum and Attakathi, made his directorial debut last year with Maayavan. Starring Sudeep Kishan and Jackie Shroff, the film dealt with the concept of immortality and talked about a world where humans were capable of transferring their soul from one body to another.
Kumar, in an IANS report, has talked about his plunge into direction. “As a producer, I was always involved in discussing story ideas with my directors. They all liked the story idea of Maayavan. Director Nalan (Kumarasamy) suggested that I direct. Honestly, I was never keen on direction, but things just fell in place.”

He also said that directing the movie taught him a lot. “It made me realise the challenges of a director. As a producer, I remember instructing my directors to finish everything under budget. It was when I was in their shoes did I realise how challenging it is to direct and take responsibility for everything.”
But the movie failed to generate returns at the box office.
However, Kumar’s second movie had come soon. Composer Hari Dafusia, who makes his debut with Gangs of Madras said in an IE report, “The shoot is almost done and songs are being recorded and finalised. It’s an exciting venture to be a part of.”
Gangs of Madras joins the list of movies that explore the culture of violence in the city. Vetri Maaran’s Vada Chennai starring Dhanush which released in 2018 also talked about the gang wars in North Chennai.
