AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala suffered a major setback in the 21-year-old disproportionate assets case recently. The Supreme Court upheld the trial court’s judgement and sentenced all those accused (VK Sasikala, Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran) to four years imprisonment.
Sasikala, whose bid to become TN CM was announced earlier this month, cannot hold public office for ten years. This means her controversial takeover of the ADMK party, and her desire to become CM, are null and void.
A section of the Tamil film industry rejoiced at the news.
The Marina spirit awaits judgement calmly. They’ve always respected civil order& will maintain it. Courts have a duty & so have the people

Arvind Swamy though was cautious in his reaction to the judgement.
There is actually no cause for celebration on both sides. Remember what the trial court judgement is and what it implies.

Public sentiment has been conflicted towards Sasikala, a longtime confidant of former TN CM Jayalalithaa, from the beginning. A lot of TN people view her as an usurper, and are keen on establishing caretaker CM O Panneerselvam as the Chief Minister.
