“I Plan To Protest Against The GST Rate On Cinema”: T Rajendar

Filmmaker and actor T Rajendar spoke up against the Central Government’s decision to impose a tax of 28 percent on cinema.

At the inaugural ceremony of a party office in Kuniyamuthur, the 62-year-old director said: “Except Kamal Haasan, nobody has come out in protest against the Central Govt’s decision to impose 28 percent GST on cinema.”

Rajendar also added that this is an attempt by the Centre to suppress, sideline and ultimately destroy regional cinema. “Yet, none of the so-called big actors have said anything about it. I plan to hold a protest against GST soon.”

The Kavan actor also condemned the police’s decision to file a complaint against the producer and director of Swathi Kolai Vazhuku. The movie is based on the murder of a woman in broad daylight at Chennai’s Nungambakkam Railway station.

TR also spoke about the menace of plastic rice and eggs in the state of Tamil Nadu. “This is not a sudden incident. This has been going on for a long time, and is only coming out now. The Police should focus on such cases, instead of hounding artistes. They should try to create awareness about such malpractices,” he said.
