Chaya Singh, who made her debut in Tamil cinema opposite Dhanush in Thiruda Thirudi says her role in Dhanush’s directorial debut Power Paandi is “simple and sweet”. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, she said, “Thiruda Thirudi’s director Subramaniyam Siva, who is working on Power Pandi, referred me to Dhanush. Later we all met, and Dhanush agreed that I fit the role. I won’t be seen throughout the film though. It’s a simple and sweet role!”
On the experience of being directed by Dhanush, she said it was easy because he understands acting. She said, “I never felt that I was working with a first-time director. Dhanush is child-like with the kids on the sets. When the actor is also a director, the work is a lot easier as he knows what he wants. I will resume shooting by the end of December.”
Chaya Singh is also starring in Jayadev’s Pattinapakkam, where she plays an actress in a troubled marriage. Chaya began her career with Kannada films. She debuted in Tamil cinema with Thiruda Thirudi. She last acted in Vallamai Thaarayo and Anandhapurathu Veedu.
Power Paandi is scheduled to release on 14 April. The film, announced on 7 September, is reportedly about ageing stunt performers. Shooting progressed at a brisk pace, and the production work has now been completed.
Bankrolled by Dhanush’s home production Wunderbar Films, Power Paandi will have music by Sean Roldan. The film stars Rajkiran in the tiular role. The supporting cast includes Prasanna, Chaya Singh, Madonna Sebastian, and Nadiya. Dhanush and director Gautham Menon have cameo appearances in the film.
