Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan’s upcoming Tamil-Telugu bilingual, Cheekati Rajyam, is the official remake of the 2011 French film Nuit Blanche aka Sleepless Night. According to a source, Kamal had bought the remake rights for a hefty price and is adapting to local sensibilities. In the original, a cop has to save his son and his own reputation in a single night.

Cheekati Rajyam is also said to be the story that unfolds in a single night in a bar. Haasan plays a policeman, too. Prakash Raj will be playing Haasan’s partner in the film, which is being directed by debutant Rajesh M Selva. Another interesting fact is that French stunt choreographers Gilles Conseil, Sylvain Gabet and Virgine Arnaud, who have been hired to work in Thoongaavanam, had also worked in the original. The film is titled Thoongaavanam in Tamil, and also features Trisha Krishnan Sampath Raj, Kishore, Madhu Shalini, Uma Riyaz and Yugi Sethu in important roles.
