The film’s director Tanu Balak told Silverscreen India that Prithviraj plays the role of Sathyajith, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
“The story will revolve around ACP Sathyajith solving a particular case,” said Balak, adding that Cold Case’s story, written by Srinath V Nath, is “completely fictional”.
Speaking about the character played by actor Aditi Balan, who rose to fame with her performance in the Tamil film Aruvi, he revealed that she plays “a journalist who is also the mother of a child.”
Balak, who makes his debut as a director with Cold Case, has worked as a cinematographer on two Malayalam films: Of The People (2008) and Train (2011).

The director told us that Cold Case was predominantly filmed in Thiruvananthapuram, in compliance with Covid-19 protocols. The film was shot by cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, who won the National Award for best cinematography for his work in Jallikattu this year.
Shooting for the film began in the end of October, 2020 without Prithviraj, who was still recovering from Covid-19 at the time. The actor had tested positive for Covid-19 during the shoot of the Malayalam film Jana Gana Mana, directed by Dijo Jose.
After testing negative for Covid-19, Prithviraj joined the set of Cold Case on November 14.
