Complaint Against Singer Papon For Kissing Minor Girl On A Facebook Live Video

A complaint has been filed against Assamese singer Papon for allegedly inappropriately kissing and touching a minor girl as seen on a Facebook Live video on his official page. The complaint was filed with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights by Supreme Court advocate Runa Bhuyan.

The video which went live on February 20 features Papon dressed as Gabbar Singh celebrating along with the children, contestants of a reality show. Towards the end of the live, the singer smears colour on the girl’s face, pinches her cheeks, and then proceeds to kiss her. He stops the live video a few seconds later. The video is still available on his official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Partha Gogoi, the singer’s manager, told a local website Guwahati Plus, “The act was not meant to hurt the sentiments of any individual, and that it was not wrong in any manner, which is why there is no reason to pull down the video from the official Facebook page of Papon.” He added that the girl’s father has also issued a statement requesting media channels to not “drag the issue.”

Meanwhile, a group of the singer’s fans – Papon Fan Club – lodged an FIR against 40 social media accounts at Dispur Police Station on Thursday. According to the fans, it’s a planned conspiracy to defame the artist.
