A 28-year-old Hungarian construction worker was killed during the dismantling of one of the sets erected for the Hollywood film Blade Runner sequel at Budapest’s Origo Studios on August 25. According to Mashable, Alcon Entertainment, the American production company for the film, confirmed the incident.
The victim, whose identity was not revealed, was working beneath a platform on which the set was constructed. A huge piece of the set from the science fiction classic’s untitled sequel reportedly collapsed on the unnamed victim.
The company has released a statement condemning the worker’s death. “The cause of the accident is not yet known. The film production, the untitled sequel to Blade Runner, was not shooting at Origo Studios at the time,” said the statement.
The film’s production, which began in early July, had already wrapped up in Hungary, with only the crew left behind to dismantle the sets. An investigation into his death is expected because it is not known why the set collapsed.

The Blade Runner sequel had long been rumoured, but director Denis Villeneuve finally confirmed in 2015 that Harrison Ford would reprise his iconic role as Rick Deckard, the ‘blade runner’. The sequel stars Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto and Robin Wright. The original film was released in 1982 directed by Ridley Scott, based on the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K Dick.
