The UK Police has launched an investigation into Coronation Street actor Marc Anwar’s series of hate tweets against Indians, even as he apologised for this ‘moment of madness’. Through a video on his YouTube channel, the 45-year-old Pakistan-born actor said, “I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to anyone that I may have offended with my tweets on Friday evening and especially people from India. This was never my intention and the language was unacceptable, I feel that I have let a lot of people down, my family, my friends and my former colleagues.”
On 23 September, in a series of tweets (which have now been deleted) Marc Anwar expressed severely abusive and racially offensive tweets against India. Amidst the heightened tension between India and Pakistan following the Uri attacks, the 45-year-old actor went on a Twitter rant on calling Indians “ba*****s” and “pi**-drinking c***s.”
In another tweet, Anwar also asked all Pakistani actors to stop working in India. He wrote, “Why the f*** do Pakistani artists want work in f***face India, do you love money so much?”

Soon after, ITV, which airs Coronation Street released a statement that said, “We are deeply shocked by the entirely unacceptable, racially offensive comments made on Twitter by Marc Anwar. We have talked to Marc and, as a consequence of his comments, he will not be returning to Coronation Street with immediate effect.”
Meanwhile, the UK Police have started an investigation against the actor. A spokesperson for the UK Police told the Sun Online, “On Sunday September 25, 2016 police received a report of a hate crime and that the police have launched an investigation and inquiries are ongoing.”
