Written and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal has Aamir playing an aging wrestler. His character is based on Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat, the first Indian female wrestler to win a gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, and Babita Kumari, who won the silver, the same year. Aamir Khan went through a drastic weight change for the role, which required him to weigh close to a 100 kgs.
Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra play Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat. Television actress Sakshi Tanvar plays Shobha Kaur, Mahavir Singh’s wife in the film. The film has music by Pritam and cinematography by Setu. Director Nitesh Tiwari has previously directed the films Chillar Party and Bhoothnath Returns.
Aamir Khan is currently shooting for his next film Secret Superstar directed by Advait Chandan following which he will act for the first time with Amitabh Bachchan in the film Thugs of Hindostan, which is slated for a Diwali 2018 release.
