Darbar, Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja, Kaappaan, Chasing, Sixer And Other Films Coming Our Way

The first-look and teasers of many new films have released during Tamil New Year. Big productions like Rajinikanth’s Darbar, Suriya’s Kaappaan and Soorarai Pottru have announced updates. The posters of Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja, Chasing, Thumbaa, Rakshasudu are out. Many interesting films with new concepts have also been launched by debut actors and filmmakers.


Here’s a round-up of all the latest updates:

Director-producer Pa Ranjith and Neelam Cultural Centre have been producing short films and online content around the idea of #VoteOutHate, which reflects Neelam’s position on the current Lok Sabha elections. The first film in the series is Lovers In The Afternoon, written and directed by Rajesh Rajamani.

The poster of the second film Share Auto, by Jeny Dolly has just released.

Sivappu Manjal Pachai

The first look of Siddharth and GV Prakash-starrer Sivappu Manjal Pachai will be released by Shankar today. The film is directed by Sasi of Pichaikaaran fame, and also stars Malayalam actor Lijomol Jose and newcomer Kashmira in the lead. Music is by Siddhu Kumar, and editing by San Lokesh of Ratsasan fame.

The film is expected to release this Summer. There are speculations that Siddharth plays a traffic cop and GV Prakash a street racer.

Abhinetri 2

The teaser of Abhinetri 2, starring Prabhudheva and Tamannaah Bhatia, released this morning. The horror-comedy is a Telugu remake of Devi 2, the sequel to the 2016 film directed by AL Vijay.

The teaser has confirmed that unlike the first film, two ghosts will feature in the sequel. Tamannaah stars opposite Prabhu Deva, and Nandita Swetha is seen in a shot. Ajmal, Kovai Sarala, Saptagiri and Dimple Hayathi have key roles. Music is by Sam CS, cinematography is by Ayananka Bose and choreography by Paresh Shirodkar.


Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Sindhubaadh will have a worldwide release on May 16. The film, which marks the third collaboration between Sethupathi and director SU Arun Kumar, also stars Anjali, Linga, Vivek Prasanna and Sethupathi’s son Surya. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music composer

The film has been shot in Tenkasi, Malaysia and Thailand, the story is broadly about how simple people take on problems that chase them no matter where they are from.

Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja

Here’s the first-look of Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja, directed by Karthik Venugopalan of YouTube channel Black Sheep, featuring RJ Vigneshkanth and TV anchor Rio Raj in the lead.

This is Sivakarthikeyan’s second production. He reportedly wanted to produce a comedy film after Kanaa, and felt this movie would be apt. Saaga fame Shabir will compose music, set to lyrics by RJ Vignesh, AP Raja, Kumaran Kumanan. The filmmakers launched a teaser for the title inauguration saying that title summed up the crux of the film. It is inspired by a popular song from MGR’s 1970 film En Annan.


Varalaxmi Sarathkumar plays a biker in her next film titled Chasing. The movie began shoot in Malaysia on Tamil New Year’s day. Written and directed by Veerakumar, the film also stars Yamuna Chinnadurai, Bala, Jerrold and Swiss Raghu.

In the poster, Varalaxmi is seen riding a sports bike in a red blazer and aviators. She is currently working on many action and other genre films including Kannitheevu, Danny, Velvet Nagaram, Kanni Raasi, Tenaliramakrishna BA BL.

Arasiyalla Idhellam Saadharnamappa

Directed by Avinaash Hariharan, an ad filmmaker, AIS bears a title based on a famous pinch line used by Goundamani. Veera of Rajathanthiram fame is acting in his first comedy film. He stars opposite Malavika Nair, the actor who made her debut with Cuckoo. Madley Blues is composing music for the film, Jalandhar Vasan is the cinematographer.

Actor Veera was quoted in a DC report, “The film is an out-and-out comic caper involving a photographer from Pondicherry, a wedding planner from Chennai, a hitman from Mumbai, and a dim-witted politician.”


The teaser for Kaappaan has released. It introduces Suriya’s many roles in the film. Mohanlal plays a Prime Minister as speculated earlier. Sayyeshaa is an agent tracking one of Suriya’s characters. Arya is her lover who is associated with the politician played by Boman Irani. Music for the film is by Harris Jayaraj, cinematography is by Abhinandan Ramanujam and MS Prabhu.

The teaser and first look for the film was announced on January 1. The film is written by Pattukkottai Prabakar, directed by KV Anand. It is scheduled for release this August.

Soorarai Pottru

Suriya’s next film with director Sudha Kongara has been titled Soorarai Pottru. The first look poster features the actor in a shirt and dhoti outfit against the background of a gigantic aeroplane. Aparna Balamurali stars as the female lead. The film is co-produced by Guneet Monga in association with 2D Entertainment.

The filmmakers have also confirmed that Soorarai Pottru is based on the life of Captain Gopinath of Air Deccan. The project had an official launch ceremony last Sunday.


The upcoming Rajinikanth and Nayanthara starrer directed by Atlee has been titled Darbar. Rajini plays a cop in the film, the first look poster confirmed. There are reports regarding his dual role and an official announcement is awaited. Cinematography is by Santosh Shivan, music is by Anirudh Ravichander, editing by Sreekar Prasad. Nivetha Thomas, Keerthy Suresh and SJ Suryah may also star in the film.

An official press release by the team confirmed that film will be extensively shot in Mumbai, and will go on floors tomorrow. The film is scheduled to release during Pongal 2020.


The first look of Vaibhav and Palak Lalwani-starrer Sixer is here. Directed by newcomer Chachi, the film is a romantic comedy, with music by Ghibran, cinematography by PG Muthaiah and production by WallMate Entertainment.

The team has also said that the film has nothing to do with cricket, and the word six is important to the script. While more details haven’t been revealed, the first-look featured Vaibhav battling a clock against ticking 6 o’clock.


The first look of Ratsasan Telugu remake is here. The thriller features Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead, and the poster confirms that that their roles will be similar to Vishnu Vishal and Amala Paul’s from the original. Rakshasudu is directed by Ramesh Varma and produced by Satyanarayana Koneru. Ghibran is the composer.

The film went on floors earlier this month, and sixty percent of the shoot is reportedly complete.


Thumbaa wrapped shoot last week. Starring Kalakka Povathu Yaaru-fame Dheena, Keerthi Pandian, and Dharshan of Kanaa fame in the lead, the film is directed by Harish Ram who has worked as an assistant to RS Durai Senthilkumar.

Said to be a fun, adventure film, its background score and songs are by Vivek-Mervin and Santhosh Dhayanidhi. Anirudh Ravichander has composed one song. The team also announced the film will release in May.

Uyarndha Manithan

Director T Tamilvanan’s Uyarndha Manithan was recently titled Tera Yaar Hoon Mein in Hindi. The bilingual marks Amitabh Bachchan’s Tamil debut and SJ Suryah’s Hindi debut. Ramya Krishnan will share screen space with Amitabh 20 years after Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.

Last month, SJ Suryah released the first-look working still of Amitabh’s character from Uyarndha Manithan saying it was the happiest moment of his life. Amitabh posted about his son Abhishek Bachchan visiting him at the sets, his admiration for Sivaji Ganesan and more.


Andrea Jeremiah will be seen as a police officer for the first time in the horror-thriller Maaliagi, directed by Dil Sathya. She also has a second role as a princess in a period segment dating back to 400 years. The story revolves around an assistant commissioner who goes to a palace for investigation and gets to know her past.

The film’s audio was launched along with a teaser recently. It introduced Andrea’s character, along with actor Ashutosh Rana, Kannada actor Karthik Jayaram, filmmaker KS Ravikumar, Manobala, AadukalamNaren, Madhumita and Telugu comedian Ali who feature in the film.

The High Priestess

Amala Akkineni will be seen in a new Telugu web series titled The High Priestess, directed by Pushpa Ignatius. The series premiers on Zee5 Telugu, on April 25.

The first-look poster and teaser released recently, revealing that Amala tarot reader by the name Swati Reddy. The film also stars Sunainaa in an important role, in addition to several Telugu and Tamil actors. The series was launched in 2018. Amala, who has now joined social media, posted the first-look on Twitter.


Nikkragan is a commercial thriller, written and directed by Nazren Sam. The film is made by a group of college friends, and stars Prasanth Daaveeth and Mohammed Gani in the lead. The story revolves around the the hosts of a popular radio show who get caught in a life-turning incident.

The producers of the film released the first look poster and title recently. The poster features four young actors with a radio in the background.


Ram Gopal Varma is making his acting debut as an intelligence officer in Cobra, co-directed by Agasthya Manju. The biopic will be made as a Hindi-Telugu bilingual, featuring newcomer KG in the lead. The movie will be financed by DPR under the banner of RGV Gunshot films production.

RGV tweeted that the biopic is on someone considered a dangerous criminal. It has been reported that the film is based on Mohammed Nayeemuddin, who was killed in a police encounter in August 2016.

Meanwhile, he has also announced that he will revive Sasikala, the biopic launched in 2017.
