Deepika Padukone And Priyanka Chopra Slay At The Met Gala 2018

If the term ‘slay’ is the internet’s favourite word, then it surely can be used to define Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra’s looks at this year’s Met Gala. The theme of the night was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination and these two Bollywood and Hollywood stars slayed away.

Dressed in a crimson Ralph Lauren strapless gown, PC’s dress took us back to the medieval times, pairing an elegant yet flamboyant headgear and rich plum-coloured lips. Needless to say, much like her Trench Coat look last year, this year, too, PC ticked quite a few boxes at the fashion department. In a good way, of course.

Deepika Padukone, who has so far starred in one Hollywood film and who made the headlines most of last year because of her association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat, went for a more subtle look this year. Her Met Gala look last year was more sombre, pairing pearls and whites together to make one chic combination. This year, albeit bolder, the look was more subtle pertaining to the theme this year.

In a red Prabal Gurung dress, the actress’ shoes and lips were a perfect match, pairing diamonds on her fingers and slicked back hair. The dress’ slit, however, made it a little less boring, reminiscent of Angelina Jolie’s famous slit in her Oscar dress.

The Met Gala is an invitation-only fundraiser to benefit the New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief and a chair of the event since 1995 (excluding 1996 and 1998), oversees both the benefit committee and the guest list, with Vogue staffers helping assemble the list of invitees.

The Gala had other celebrities, too, slaying at the red carpet. Rihanna, who has made heads turn for the past few years, continues to reign as Met Gala Queen. The singer, who co-hosted the gala with Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney, was dressed as a female Pope: A white beaded Margiela corset mini dress under a full skirt, with a beaded bishop’s hat to match, along with a crucifix necklace.
