Deepika Padukone Likely To Play The Lead In ‘Badlapur 2’

Deepika Padukone might just take over Varun Dhawan’s role in producer Dinesh Vijan’s second installment of his 2015 revenge-drama Badlapur. According to a DNA India report, a sequel to Badlapur, with a female protagonist and a completely new cast, is being planned. Vijan had reportedly approached Deepika for the same, with the latter liking the idea.

“It’s a character-driven role, just like Varun’s was in Badlapur. The script isn’t ready yet, and once that’s done, the producer will give the actress a full narration and get her dates blocked for the film,” a source tells DNA.

Deepika has been a part of many of Vijan’s previous productions including Love Aaj Kal (2009), Cocktail (2012), Finding Fanny (2014), and his directorial Raabta, where she’ll be seen in one song. She is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, inspired by Rani Padmavati of Chittor. Starring Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, the film is slated for a November release.

In addition, she has committed to star as Rahima Khan, a Mumbai-based gangster from the 1980s who plots to assassinate Dawood Ibrahim, in Vishal Bhardwaj’s as-yet untitled crime drama biographical film, co-starring Irrfan Khan.

Raabta, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon, is slated for a June 9 release.
