Defamation Case Against Kamal Haasan, Bigg Boss Show For Insulting Tamil Community

A criminal defamation complaint has been filed against actor Kamal Haasan alleging that the actor has insulted a Tamil community on the July 14 episode of Bigg Boss Tamil which he hosts.

According to the complaint filed at the metropolitan magistrate court in Chennai, the ‘Nadaswaram’ — a musical instrument that is treated like ‘God’ by the Isai Vellalar community — was used in a ‘cavalier manner’.

The community’s president, KR Kuhesh, alleged that former contestant Shakthi P Vasu could be seen throwing the instrument from one hand to another. He also said that the ‘Nadaswaram’ was kept on the dining table where the participants ate, an action that insulted and damaged the ‘mindset of the Isai Vellalar community’.

The show is being telecast on Vijay TV since June 24. Kuhesh believes that this was done in an attempt to garner more viewers and TRPs. Alleging that the insult was intentional, Kuhesh said that he was forced to take the legal route as Vijay TV (the channel that hosts Bigg Boss), Bigg Boss producers Endemol India, and Kamal Haasan had not made any apology.

The case will be heard by the court on September 1.

Haasan’s stint as the host of this reality show has fostered much controversy. The actor has been slammed in the past for being a part of the show.
