Director Sriram Adittya plays up Das’ (Nani) mousy demeanour for laughs in the recently released 50-second teaser of his upcoming film Devadas. Actor Nagarjuna, possibly the Deva in the film, keeps pouring drinks for Nani in what looks like a medical examination room. The minute he turns his back to get some soda or water, Nani gulps it down. This happens a second time, prompting a sarcastic response from Nagarjuna.
That Nani’s Das brings his own glass for the drinking session speaks volumes about the character. Deva is surprised that Das would drink with him. It’s a role reversal, certainly.
Reports suggest that Nagarjuna plays a don in the film. Nani is the doctor. It is an unusual pairing, and this is explored to great effect in the teaser. The background score serves as a comic element.
Aakanksha Singh and Rashmina Mandanna are the other leads in the movie, though they don’t make an appearance in the trailer. Vennela Kishore, Rao Ramesh, V.K. Naresh, Srinivas Avasarala are in supporting roles.
In an earlier news report, Nagarjuna had said that the film can be categorised under the Rajkumar Hirani brand of films which means that the film will be a comedy entertainer with a dash of social commentary.

Devadas’ promotional material suggests that it will explore the very unlikely relationship that blossoms between a rough and ready gangster and a somewhat passive doctor. It’s a casting coup to have secured two successful actors like Nagarjuna and Nani for a movie, and this has fueled expectations among the Telugu movie going audience.
Vyjayanthi Movies is the producer of this movie that was initially aiming for a Ganesh Chathurthi release. However, the release date has not been announced yet.
