In April, director Bejoy Nambiar, known for his Hindi/Tamil bilingual David, announced that he would direct a Hindi remake of Agni Natchathiram. Vicky Kaushal and Harshavardhan Rane were roped into the project. However, it’s been confirmed that Vicky Kaushal has been dropped off the project, and Dhanush has been roped in. Other details about the cast are yet to be finalised.

Like his previous movie, David, which had multiple composers including Anirudh Ravichander, this movie is also said to have an ensemble soundtrack. Reports confirm that Govind Menon from the band ‘Thaikkudum Bridge‘ has been signed for the film.

Agni Natchathiram has already been remade in Hindi as Vansh in 1992. The movie received a very tepid response at the box-office, declaring it a failure. However, this doesn’t dampen Bejoy Nambiar’s spirits who said he wanted to deliver a contemporary reboot of the film. It can be noted that Bejoy Nambiar was also a former assistant of director Mani Ratnam.

Agni Natchathiram is a successful 1988 action-drama film. The movie is about two sons born to different women, fighting for their legitimacy, with a common father. Prabhu and Karthik played the roles of the brothers while Amala and Nirosha played the lead female roles. Ilaiyaraja composed music for the film. The film, a huge commercial success, enjoyed a 200-day run at the box office.

Dhanush will be next seen in Thodari, which is slated for an August release. The actor is currently working on the three-part movie Vada Chennai, directed by Vetrimaaran.
