Dikkatra Parvathi Screening

Actress Lakshmi and Director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao attended a private screening of the 1974 hit movie Dikkatra Parvathi today. Based on a C Rajagopalachari story, the movie was mostly shot at Thorapalli, his birthplace. It was bankrolled with the help of the Film Finance Corporation of India (now National Film Development Corportation).

Legend has it that then Chief Minster MG Ramachandran stepped in and helped the Dikkatra Parvathi’s producer pay a loan, clearing the way for the film’s release in 1974.   The movie went on to have a successful theatrical run.

According to a spokesperson, the original reel was damaged and recently a reel was found in the archives of the Poona Film Institute. Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, actress Lakshmi and YG Mahendra obtained the copy and arranged a screening at Prasad Lab forty years after it was originally released.
