Hindi film director Jagan Shakti confirmed that he will be directing the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum on Saturday. According to a report by the Indian Express, he also said that the film stars John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor in the lead.
Based on the 2020 Malayalam drama film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon, the remake will be produced by Abraham’s production company JA Entertainment. Abraham announced in May last year that he had acquired the remake rights for the film.
The decision regarding the casting of the female lead and other characters will be taken soon.
Abraham is expected to portray Menon’s character, while Arjun Kapoor will play Prithviraj Sukumaran’s role in the upcoming film. “My next film is with John and Arjun. It is a remake of Ayyappanum Koshiyum. John will be playing the role of Ayyappan, while Arjun will play Prithviraj’s part. We are presenting both the actors in new avatars,” he told PTI.
He also noted that the actors have started to prepare for the film and are excited about the project.
Speaking about the script, Shakti said, “When I was approached for the Hindi remake of the film, I couldn’t refuse as I was bowled over by the movie, which I had seen much before the offer came to me. We are still working on the script right now as we are making some changes to suit the Hindi audience.”
The upcoming film marks the second collaboration between Kapoor and Abraham. The actors are currently working on Ek Villain Returns, the sequel of director Mohit Suri’s 2014 action film Ek Villain. Jagan Shakti previously directed the 2019 Hindi film Mission Mangal.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum is also being remade in Telugu with Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati in the lead. Directed by Saagar K Chandra, the film has been titled Bheemla Nayak and is expected to hit the screens on the occasion of Sankranthi in 2022. Recently, the makers released the title song Power Anthem on the occasion of Kalyan’s birthday.
