Director Majith’s ‘Torchlight’ Cleared By Mumbai Censor Board

Torchlight, directed by Majith of Tamizhan fame, has been cleared by the Mumbai Censor Board.

In an official press statement, director said that it is a period film set in the 1990s and addresses the issues faced by women sex workers. The film will portray how women are exploited by the  society due to their poverty. The film stars Sadha and Rythvika. The director said that while many actress were not willing to play the role of a sex worker, actress Sadha of Jayam fame agreed to be a part of the film.

The director added that a lot of research has gone into the making of the film. To understand their way of life, he spoke to many sex workers, documented their lives and incorporated the details in his script.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, the film will also star Anjali of Engeyum Eppodhum fame and newcomers Udhaya, Sivasakthi and Atta Kaththi Dinesh will be playing pivotal roles.

The film, which was announced last year, has been delayed because of the censor certificate. Finally after appealing to the Mumbai censor board, the film was given an ‘A’ certificate.

The first look poster of the film was released in November last year with actress Sadha in it. The poster was provocative and intriguing.

Sadha was last seen in Eli, while Rythvika who impressed the audience with her performance in Madras and Kabali, has played a similar role in Iru Mugan, directed by Anand Shankar, which starred Vikram and Nayanthara in the lead roles.

The film is jointly produced by Abdul Majith, M. Antony Edward, Ranganathan Raju and Kannan Basker, while the music is composed by JV and lyrics penned by Vairamuthu.
