Doctor, the upcoming Tamil film starring actor Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, is set to release in theatres on October 9, the makers of the film announced on Thursday.
Sivakarthikeyan is also producing Doctor under his home banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions along with Kalai Arasu under the KJR Studios banner.
Doctor wrapped up its shooting in January and Sivakarthikeyan announced in February that he has completed dubbing for the film. The film was initially scheduled to release on March 26. However, the makers postponed the release due to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections that took place in April.
While, a few months back, there were speculations that the film will opt for a direct-to-OTT release, following the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and the shutting down of theatres, KJ Rajesh of KJR Studios, had refuted the rumours, speaking with Silverscreen India. Following the reopening of theatres in Tamil Nadu from August, on September 9, makers of the film announced that it will release in theatres in October.
The film is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who is currently working with actor Vijay in the upcoming Tamil film Beast. Doctor is Nelson’s second directorial venture after the 2018 Tamil black comedy film Kolamavu Kokila.
Doctor, which is shot by Vijay Kartik Kannan, also features actor Priyanka Arul Mohan in her Tamil debut. She is also set to collaborate with Sivakarthikeyan in the upcoming film Don. Apart from her, Doctor’s cast includes actors Vinay Rai, Yogi Babu, Ilavarasu, and Archana in pivotal roles. While Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music, Nirmal is the editor.
Sivakarthikeyan who was last seen in the 2019 superhero film Hero, has science fiction comedy Ayalaan and a film with Jathi Ratnalu director Anudeep KV in the pipeline. He is also in talks with Gautham Menon for a film with Vels Film International.
