Drishyam 2: Mohanlal Shares Picture of Family’s Reunion

Malayalam actor Mohanlal on Monday took to Instagram to post pictures from the sets of Drishyam 2. He posted a picture along with his co-stars Meena, Ansiba, and Esther Anil with the caption “Georgekutty and Family… #Drishyam2.”

In Drishyam, while Mohanlal played Georgekutty, Meena played the role of his wife Rani, Ansiba played the role of his elder daughter Anju and Esther Anil the role of the younger daughter Anu. All four are reprising their roles for the sequel.

Drishyam 2 director Jeethu Joseph also posted a picture of the cast.

Drishyam 2 is a sequel to the 2013 thriller, directed by Jeethu Joseph. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Drishyam 2 is being shot in Thodupuzha, Kerala. 

Mohanlal had announced the launch of the film his 60th birthday in May and filming had kicked off in Kochi on September 21. Mohanlal had shared pictures on Instagram from the floor set. 

Drishyam, which released in 2013, was a suspense thriller that showed the struggles of a common man trying to protect his family from being arrested on charges of killing a police officer’s son, who was stalking and harassing Georgekutty’s family. In Drishyam 2, the story cuts forward seven years and all four of the main characters are reprising their role.

Following the huge success of Drishyam, it was remade in several languages, including Papanasam in Tamil (starring Kamal Haasan)Drishya (2014) in Kannada; Drushyam (2014) in Telugu and Drishyam in Hindi (starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran). After its international recognition, it was also remade in the Sinhalese language as Dharmayuddhaya (2017) and was the first Indian film to be remade in Chinese as Sheep Without a Shepherd in 2019.

According to reports, the entire cast and crew of Drishyam 2 have taken the mandatory Covid-19 test as per protocol before joining the shoot.

Before the Covid-19-related lockdown was enforced, Jeethu and Mohanlal had started shooting action thriller Ram. Since the film required shooting in international locations, the duo decided to begin shooting Drishyam 2 instead after the lockdown was eased, as the latter would be shot only in Kerala.
