Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Shajon, known for his role in Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam, has bagged a role in director Shankar’s 2.0. According to a ToI report, the actor will be seen sharing screen space with Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar.
“Shankar sir apparently watched Drishyam and liked my performance. Though he does not watch many Malayalam films, he likes our actors and has cast many from the industry in his films, like Kalabhavan Mani. It’s a great honour to work with him!,” Shajon said.
The actor even extended his gratitude to the director and team for rescheduling the filming dates as per his convenience. “I was happy when the offer came, but was concerned learning that my schedule will clash with this pre-committed programme. Learning that I’m quite keen to work in the film, Shankar sir instructed his team to tweak the film’s schedule, to suit my dates! My joy knew no bounds,” he said.
Shajon is known for playing the role of cops in many Malayalam films. While Drishyam gained him recognition, his recent releases such as Welcome To Central Jail with Dileep and Mohan Lal-starrer Oppam saw him in the same avatar, albeit in a negative role. “It maybe that negative roles suit me. In fact, I was consciously making a decision to reduce khaki roles as I have acted as both a convict and a cop, but this role came under a good production which had Dileep as the hero. I was thrilled to play the role of a jailer as I have not done it before,” he told Deccan Chronicle recently.

Meanwhile, Shajon will also be making his directorial debut soon, in which Prithviraj is the male lead. “I have dreamt of it for many years. I finished the scripting and got the dates of Raju (Prithviraj). At the moment, he is busy with other projects. That is why we couldn’t start shooting this year. We have scheduled it for next year,” he said. He will also be playing the role of a 70-year-old in Pareed Pandari opposite Sajitha Madathil, in addition to starring in the Mammootty-starrer The Great Father.
Shankar’s 2.0 is a sequel to Tamil blockbuster Enthiran (2010). The film will feature Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson, with music by AR Rahman. The film will be bankrolled by Subaskaran Allirajah’s Lyca Productions.
