Produced by the actor under his home banner, Wayfarer films, the film will mark the directorial debut of Abhilash Joshiy, son of veteran filmmaker Joshiy.

Announcing the project, Dulquer wrote, “Here’s a first look poster of a dream project with my first ever and best friend Abhilash Joshiy. We’ve known each other since diapers and grew up with our common love for cinema and cars and photography and travel. We’ve been trying to find the perfect project for his debut for the past few years. Finally, we feel we’ve locked something that excites us and hopefully you all will love.”

The screenwriter of King of Kotha is Abhilash N Chandran. Speaking to Silverscreen India, he said, “King of Kotha will be an action thriller film. It will be a complete entertainer with classy and mass elements that will appeal to all types of audiences.”

The scenarist has earlier written Porinju Mariam Jose, the 2019 period action thriller directed by Joshiy and starring Joju George, Nyla Usha, and Chemban Vinod Jose.

“Joshiy sir is my guru as I began my writing career with his film. So when I got to know that his son, Abhilash Joshiy, was looking for a good script to make his debut with, I pitched my story idea. Both Abhilash and Dulquer liked the story and the project took off from there,” he said.

Abhilash N Chandran revealed that King of Kotha is a completely fictional story set in the fictional town of Kotha. He also added that as the first look suggests, Dulquer will play “a gangster type of a role” in the film. “We are currently in the final stage of the writing process. The film’s shoot date has not been finalised yet,” he said.

Aside from King of Kotha, Dulquer also announced another film on Wednesday, titled Othiram Kadakam, which will be directed by Soubin Shahir. The duo had earlier collaborated on Parava, the 2017 drama film that marked Soubin’s directorial debut.

Releasing the first look poster of Othiram Kadakam on his social media handle, Dulquer mentioned that his character Imran in Parava is one of his most loved characters and also noted he will be playing a full-length role in Othiram Kadakam.
