‘Vaa Vaa Kerivaada’, a song from the film, composed by Jose Franklin and sung by Mukundan, was also released on Thursday.

Produced by Shibu G Suseelan under the SGS CINEMAZ and Movie junction banners, the film is written and directed by debutant Viyaan Vishnu.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Viyaan said “Set in slums, the story revolves around the journey of the lives of a bunch of children and their mother.”

Calling Ek Din a multi-genre film, Viyaan said that it mainly revolves around the themes of family relationships, motivation and friendship.

Elaborating on the film’s title, Ek Din, Viyaan said that it’s inspired by the popular Hindi song Hum Honge Kamyab Ek Din. “In Everyone’s life there are struggles and we always wait for that one day (Ek Din) to overcome it and achieve something in life. Likewise, this film is also about such struggles and self-motivation and hence we chose this phrase for the film’s title as it aptly resonates with the film’s idea.”

While the film features well-known actors like Devaki Nair, Bilas Nair, Indrans, Kottayam Pradeep, Vaishnavi S Venugopal and several others, a group of children from across age groups are the film’s central characters, said Viyaan.

Viyaan said that he conducted auditions to cast the children and held two-month long workshops to train them ahead of the shoot. A few other cast members were selected after seeing their performances in short films, he added.

“The film was developed from a one-liner about the relationship between a mother and her children. I made it into a full-fledged script in 2018 with a lot of interesting elements. As I pitched the film to the producer, he instantly liked the idea and agreed to come on board. Later we shot the film for around 120 days with intervals between 2019 and 2021,” he said.

He also noted that the film was shot in Mumbai and Kochi over three years as the film is set in different timelines, as part of which, they had to show the children growing up. A decision on Ek Din‘s release date is yet to be made, the director added.
