Tales of sons searching for their long-lost fathers and brothers on the lookout for their missing siblings have been mined by Indian movies for a long time now. But Ente Ummante Peru, the new Malayalam film, in a bid to break out of this mould, tweaks the equation by having the son, played by Tovino Thomas, search not for his father, or brother, but the mother.
Hardly a minute and a half long, the trailer is economic and effective in conveying the plot and offering a glimpse of the characters involved. From the sidekick played by Harish Peruvanna to the debutant leading lady Sai Priya and the supporting cast comprising Siddique, Mammokkoya, Dileesh Pothan and Urvashi, everyone works through expressions, dialogues or voice-overs in serving up Hameed’s story.
Tovino Thomas playing Hameed has to mostly flex his comic chops in the teaser. Set in a rural backdrop, the story of the film is rooted in Muslim culture and touches upon the concept of ‘Yatim’ – an orphan according to the religion.
Ente Ummante Peru is directed by debutant Jose Sebastian. While the trailer of the movie was released by Dulquer Salmaan, Tovino Thomas had shared the title and first look poster of the movie earlier this year.

Ente Ummante Peru marks the actor’s sixth release in Malayalam this year. Aami, Maradona and Theevandi are some of his releases that were appreciated by viewers. His latest film Oru Kuprasidha Payyan is still running in theatres. Directed by actor Madhupal, the movie is centered on the theme of moral policing widely prevalent in today’s society. The actor, meanwhile, plays the antagonist in Dhanush’s Maari 2 that is gearing up for a Christmas release.
Jointly scripted by the director and Sarath R Nair, Ente Ummante Peru is produced by Anto Joseph and C R Salim. Music has been composed by Gopi Sunder while Jordi Planel Closs is the cinematographer for the movie.
The movie is scheduled for a Christmas release.
