Escape, the upcoming Malayalam film starring Gayathri Suresh and Sreevidya Mullachery in the lead roles, will be a psycho-survival thriller, the film’s project designer Nibin Navas told Silverscreen India.
The makers released the film’s first look poster on October 1. Escape is written and directed by Sarshick Roshan. The film is produced under the SR Big Screen Entertainment banner.
In conversation with Silverscreen India, Nibin said that the film revolves around a pregnant woman (played by Gayathri) and her friend (played by Sreevidya). “The story unfolds when the pregnant woman encounters a psychopath who tries to kill her,” he added.
Nibin noted that the film has around 35 characters of which 30 characters are played by well-known artists. Escape also features actors like Arun Kumar, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Shaju Sridhar and Nandan Unni among several others. “The actor who plays the role of psycho-killer is suspenseful as his face is masked up till a particular point in the film.”
The film which was originally shot in Malayalam will be dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. “The film is not based on any nativity. The costume and location are neutral and no timeline is mentioned. It’s a thriller subject and it could happen anywhere. So audience can relate well with the film,” he added.
According to Nibin, it took around one year for Sarshick to develop the story and the process included some research. “The film went on floors at the end of August in Ottapalam and was wrapped on September 10. Another interesting aspect of the film is that it has a bunch of lengthy shots,” he said.
Escape is currently in the post-production stage and the makers said that they would plan for the film’s release after analysing the response to theatres reopening in Kerala.
Filmmaker Vinu Vijay who is working on Santa Maria, the upcoming Malayalam film starring Babu Antony, has contributed creative inputs for Escape and is also handling the film’s marketing and communication department. Sajeesh Raj (Ek Nashebaaz) is the cinematographer for Escape.
Gayathri who works in the Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu film industries, has a slew of projects in the pipeline including Malayalam films Badal, 99 Crime Dairy and Tamil film 4G and Telugu films Lover and Hero Heroine, among others. Sreevidya who has acted in films like Campus Diary, Oru Kuttanadan Blog and Oru Pazhaya Bomb Kadha, will be next seen in Sathyam Mathrame Bodhippikku and Thala.
