The first teaser of Fanney Khan, directed by Atul Manjrekar, opens to an invisible crowd cheering to a silhouette on the stage, and Rajkummar Rao’s voice starts to decipher the title, Fanney Khan.
“This is the story of the man who changed the meaning of the name Fanney Khan!” the voice-over says, and we get glimpses of a stunning Aishwarya Rai, and Rao himself. Finally, we get a shot of Anil Kapoor engrossed in playing a trumpet sitting on the balcony of a run-down building, against the backdrop of an opulent modern city.

Starring Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Rajkummar Rao, Fanney Khan is an official remake of Everybody’s Famous! (2000), an Oscar-nominated Dutch film produced and directed by Dominique Deruddere, which narrates the tale of a young girl whose father goes to fatal extends to make her a singing sensation. Although we don’t know yet who plays what in Fanney Khan, the first poster of the film gives away some clues. In one corner of the poster is written “Taal-N-Talent“, perhaps the name of a reality show Fanney Khan is a part of. It could also be an ode to the last film Aishwarya Rai and Kapoor co-starred 19 years ago – Taal, directed by Subhash Ghai. In Fanney Khan, Rai, reportedly, plays a highly popular singer-performer, vaguely similar to her role in Taal.
Fanney Khan is being jointly produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, KriArj Entertainment and T-Series.
