Fanney Khan Trailer: The Kind Of Film The Might Break Your Heart

The trailer of Fanney Khan is out and it unveils the bittersweet stories of a quirky set of characters. The film is an official remake of Everybody’s Famous! (2000), an Oscar-nominated Dutch film produced and directed by Dominique Deruddere, which narrates the tale of a young girl whose father goes to fatal extents to make her a singing sensation.

In the Hindi remake, Fanney Khan – played by Anil Kapoor – had big dreams of becoming the next Mohammad Rafi. He was part of a thriving orchestra back in the 90s, but the daily drudgery of life consumed him and he couldn’t make it big. Now, it is his dream to make his teenage daughter, played by Pihu Sand, the next Lata Mangeshkar. But there is a slight problem. His daughter thinks that Lata Mangeshkar’s songs are a 100 years old, like her father. While Fanney Khan struggles to gather money to produce his daughter’s album, the daughter goes through her own set of problems – body shaming, pressure to look glamourous and making it big in the world of music.

Enter Baby Singh, the rich, glamorous singer played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Fanney Khan along with his friend Adhir, played by Rajkummar Rao, kidnaps Baby Singh. While Fanney Khan struggles to get on with his plan, Adhir is clearly besotted with the singer. When she asks how much money do they want, his reply is: “Whatever you think is the best.”

The comic repartee between Aishwarya and Rajkummar only increases curiosity about the film. There is also Divya Dutta, who plays Lata’s mother and doesn’t have the least bit confidence in her daughter’s talent. The trailer overall has a very old world charm to it.

The film is co-produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures Productions and T-Series, in association with Anil Kapoor Films Company Network. This is Atul Manjrekar’s first directorial venture. Fanney Khan is scheduled to release on August 3.
