Personalities from the Tamil film industry staged a one day hunger-strike today to protest against former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s recent arrest. Movie shootings and screenings were cancelled. Actor Sarath Kumar, who is also the president of Nadigar Sangam, was the first to arrive. He was joined by P Vasu, Ramarajan, Sathyaraj, Sibiraj and Shakti Vasu. Yesteryear actors Sachu, Vennira Aadai Nirmala and SS Rajendran participated as well.
Actors Suriya, Karthi, Vikram, Vijay Sethupathi, Jiiva and Sivakarthikeyan joined the protest a little later. Heavy police protection was provided for the event. At 5 pm, SS Rajendran offered fruit juice to the participants and ended the hunger-strike.
Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Ajith didn’t join the protest, as they were reportedly busy with their upcoming releases.
