After an overwhelming response to Richa Chadha, Vivek Oberoi-starrer web-series Inside Edge, producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are now back with their second web-series, Mirzapur. It stars Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi. The show is created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna and is directed by Gurmeet Singh.

The poster has a picture of an antique gun, lying on a bright red carpet. In an interview to Silverscreen, Shweta Tripathi had expressed her excitement about the web-series. In her words: “It’s one of the best scripts I have read. My character gets introduced only in the second episode, but I wanted to be a part of it.” The actress also said that it is the story about power-hungry people and the games they play.

Set in Mirzapur, the story revolves around three families – Pankaj Kapoor who’s an all-powerful don; two brothers played by Ali Fazal and Vikrant Massey; a family of two sisters played by Shriya Pilgaonkar and Shweta Tripathi.

Shweta had also revealed that she plays the young and confident Golu Gupta in the film, while Ali Fazal plays a North Indian gangster in the film.

Pankaj Tripathi, who has a crucial role in Sacred Games, had earlier told Silverscreen, “Digital platforms are great for small-budget films that don’t get a wide theatrical release. Moreover, unlike films, here you don’t have to worry about censorship. The actors and filmmakers have full creative freedom. I can deliver my lines without worry.” Apart from Sacred Games, Pankaj’s Gurgaon and Powder are already on Netflix. Mirzapur aside, the actor is also part of remake of BBC’s international series Criminal Justice, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia.

As per the official synopsis, “Mirzapur brings together heart-pounding action, and gangsters armed with sharp minds, dry humor and crafty moves.” The Prime Original series will release later this year.
